Toronto: The Movie Network and Movie Central want another season of Slings and Arrows and have sent director Peter Wellington and cast back to work at Toronto Film Studios for another six one-hours of the comic series. Paul Gross reprises his Gemini-winning role as the unhinged theater director who, this time around, struggles to mount a production of Shakespeare’s famously cursed Macbeth. Stephen Ouimette, Martha Burns and Mark McKinney also star along with new additions Colm Feore (Trudeau, Paycheck) and Geraint Wyn Davies (Some Things That Stay).
Slings and Arrows is written by McKinney, Susan Coyne and Bob Martin and produced by Niv Fichman, Daniel Iron and Sari Friedland of Rhombus Media, with funding from Showcase, TMN/MC and the Canadian Television Fund. Season two shoots until February, about the same time season one is set to air on Showcase.
‘This season is similar to last year in spirit, though it’s more of a tapestry,’ says Wellington, partway through the 48-day shoot. ‘The stories weave together in a much more complicated way so shooting is also more complicated.’
Gross and Rachel Adams both scored Geminis last month for their performances in season one of Slings. Wellington also recently celebrated the DVD release of his pic Luck at Atom Egoyan’s newly opened Toronto bar Camera.
