Edmonton – Documentary filmmaker Lorna Thomas recently wrapped production on Radio Worth Fighting For. Thomas is producer/director, while Lisa Miller is associate producer/assistant director. Geo Takach penned the one-hour doc, which airs on Bravo! Dec. 12.
The $200,000 film, narrated by Cindy Church, takes an in-depth look at how devoted listeners fought to save Alberta radio station CKUA, after the station was briefly shut down due to lack of funding. CKUA was instrumental in launching the careers of some of Canada’s most noted musicians, including Buffy Sainte-Marie and Bruce Cockburn, both of whom are featured in live performances.
Radio Worth Fighting For was produced with funds from the Alberta Film Development Program, the Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund and the CanWest Western Independent Producers Fund. Laura Bracken
