PrideVision sold for $2.6M
Headline Media Group has sold its underperforming gay and lesbian lifestyle channel PrideVision TV for $2.6 million to broadcaster Bill Craig, keeping only a 10% stake in its Canadian assets and the rights to develop PrideVision channels in other countries. Craig, former head of iCraveTV.com, has assumed $1.1 million in debt connected to the channel, which has limped along with roughly 20,000 subscribers since it debuted in September 2001.
CBC vet Denis Harvey dead at 74
Veteran CBC-TV journalist Denis Harvey died of a heart attack related to a brief struggle with cancer on Dec. 7 at the age of 74.
Before joining CBC as chief news editor in 1973, Harvey worked at the Hamilton Spectator and Montreal Gazette. He went back to newspapers for a brief stint at the Toronto Star in 1978, but returned to the pubcaster as head of sports in 1981. He became VP of English TV in ’84 and oversaw the launch of CBC Newsworld. Harvey left the CBC in ’91 and became head of Life Channel two years later.
Services were held at the A. W. Miles Chapel in Toronto, Dec. 11.
