Winners at CAB

Quebec City: On Nov. 11, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters handed out its Gold Ribbon awards, commending individuals and broadcast outlets for excellence on the airwaves.

Andre Bureau, chairman of Astral Media, took CAB’s highest honor, the Gold Ribbon for Broadcast Excellence, in recognition of his 30 years in the business, which has included a six-year stint as chair of the CRTC and earned him such other honors as the Order of Canada and the Order of Arts and Letters of France.

Among specialty channels, CBC Newsworld’s anniversary coverage of Sept. 11 won in the news special category, and RDI’s Culture Choc: L’Amour eternel took best magazine program. Best art programming went to ZMontreal and its La revanche des nerdz, and MuchMusic’s 2002 video awards won among entertainment specials. The History Channel doc A Child’s Century of War won for best documentary.
