* Claude Joli-Cúur has been appointed director, business affairs and legal services with the National Film Board. Joli-Cúur will also serve as secretary to the NFB’s board of trustees.

A veteran industry lawyer, Joli-Cúur has worked with Telefilm Canada, Astral Media, Coscient Group/Motion International and TVA International. Most recently, he was VP, business affairs at production house Zone3.

He took up his new position at the NFB Oct. 20.

* Laurence Corman has joined Montreal’s Audio Postproduction SPR as its new director of client services. Corman previously worked at Stonehaven Productions.

* The traditional start of the school year has brought staffing changes at Vancouver Film School. New appointments include Larry Bafia, who is named head of 3D animation and visual effects. Previously, Bafia was a commercial animation director at PDI/DreamWorks.

Suzy Beugen-Bishop has been appointed head of film production. Previously, Beugen-Bishop was VP of production at NBC and Republic Pictures and a producer at Disney and NBC.

Joseph Gilland has been named head of 2D animation and digital character animation (Maya). Previously, he worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation, Don Bluth Animation and Nelvana.

Charles Porlier is the new head of makeup design for film and TV. His credits include the TNT MOW Door to Door, which recently earned him an Emmy.

Robert Grieve is head of sound design for visual media. Previously, he was nominated for an Oscar for best sound for Silverado.

Internal promotions include Bill Marchant, who moves from the role of head instructor to head of the acting department. Recently, he completed directing his first feature Everyone. Rob Gray moves from being head of the writing department and interactive media to head instructor. Jason Murphy assumes the role of head of foundation visual art and design. Stephen Webster has been appointed head of interactive media. And Katherine Billings has been named VFS artistic director, a newly created role.
