Dreaming in the Rain

Just in time for film festival season, Dreaming in the Rain is a new book about Vancouver’s 20-year-old film industry by Vancouver writer David Spaner. The Arsenal Pulp Press release (208 pgs, $19.95), subtitled How Vancouver Became Hollywood North by Northwest, chronicles the history of the upstart film centre from primitive backlot to the runaway production scourge of Hollywood to the home of some of Canada’s best domestic drama.

Dreaming in the Rain features the Vancouver Province movie reviewer’s interviews with, among others, Robert Altman, John Travolta, Lynne Stopkewich, Stephen J. Cannell, John Frankenheimer, Mina Shum, Sylvester Stallone, Nicholas Campbell, Bruce Sweeney, Chris Haddock, Chris Carter, Sandy Wilson, Norman Jewison and Anne Wheeler.
