Cable Summit cancelled

The Canadian Cable Television Association has postponed its September Cable Summit until next year.

Originally scheduled for April in Toronto, the Summit was pushed back due to the SARS scare. According to CCTA Cable Summit chair Dean MacDonald, the Summit was rescheduled for September, but given a number of variables, the event has been put off until 2004.

‘As we headed into the fall there were still some SARS issues hanging out there that were problematic, because a large portion of our delegates are from outside of Canada, particularly the U.S.,’ he says.

MacDonald adds that, SARS situation aside, the CCTA membership indicated that with stressful fall launches, the Summit wasn’t meant to take place this year.

The two-day Summit, designed to celebrate creativity and innovation in the cable broadcasting sector and bring together major players in the field, will likely go ahead in 2004, says MacDonald.

‘We’re going to circle the wagons now and decide if we go back to the regular spring time frame or if there is a better time to do it,’ he says. ‘A lot of it will depend on what the regulatory schedule looks like in the coming year in terms of hearings, so we need to do an assessment and inventory on that.’
