Seduction holds off Pirates

Montreal: The Max Films comedy La Grande Seduction took in $902,697 over its opening July 11-13 weekend, establishing a new record for a Quebec summer release, says distrib Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm.

Directed by Jean-Francois Pouliot from a screenplay by Ken Scott (La Vie Apres l’Amour) and produced by Roger Frappier and Luc Vandal, Seduction opened on 78 screens across the province, including numerous drive-ins, outperforming two major studio releases which opened the same week, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, which came in second with receipts of just over $750,000, and 20th Century Fox’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, ranked third.

Seduction was filmed on location last fall in the tiny North Shore village of Harrington Harbour and tells the story of an isolated fishing village’s imaginative and desperate efforts to attract a doctor.
