Triad at the crossroads

Peter D’Entremont, president and founder of Halifax prodco Triad Films, has launched crossroads film consulting, a service company that sees D’Entremont and his team taking on a silent-partner role on documentary productions, offering strategic creative and business advice.

With nearly 25 years in the biz and several doc projects to his credit, D’Entremont (Punk X) sees crossroads as a natural extension of his business. He says that doc – and sometimes drama – filmmakers would often contact him for guidance on managing the business elements of production, and creative matters as well.

‘We see not only people starting off on their first time making a documentary, but also people who have made a few and are looking for an additional perspective on a creative note or a little bit of help in areas that aren’t necessarily their strength,’ D’Entremont says.

Crossroads’ team includes writers and researchers to help in the development, production and post elements of projects as well as business and financial planners who can help wade through budgets, financial structures, recoupment and market and cash-flow analysis. If an issue comes up that the crossroads team isn’t qualified to handle, D’Entremont says he will track down an appropriate industry person who is.

D’Entremont says crossroads will not typically get involved beyond providing constructive criticism and general advice, but under the right set of circumstances it may expand its role within a production.
