The May 12 issue of Playback incorrectly reported Denys Arcand’s Les Invasions barbares is the first Canadian feature film in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival since Leolo, back in 1992. Arcand’s film is the first Quebec film entered in the festival’s Palme D’Or competition section since 1992.

However, other Canadian films have competed in Cannes since 1992, and several have won major awards. They include: David Cronenberg’s Spider (2002); Atom Egoyan’s Felicia’s Journey (1999); Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter (1997), winner of the Grand Prix, Ecumenical and International Critics Prizes; Cronenberg’s Crash (1996), a Special Jury Prize winner; and Egoyan’s Exotica (1994), which won the International Critics Prize.
