Minds Eye Entertainment

Regina-based Minds Eye Entertainment has been instrumental in creating and expanding the production industry in Western Canada. The company was founded in 1986 based on a commitment to developing series, docs and feature films out of the Prairie region – and now beyond.

PS Production Services became part of that vision in 1992 when Minds Eye embarked on its first major feature, Decoy, an action-adventure copro filmed entirely on location in Saskatchewan, much of it in the wilderness.

Local gaffer Peter La Rocque established contact with the Regina office of PS in order to rent equipment for the film. It was the beginning of a long-lasting relationship.

‘Since then, we’ve used PS extensively on projects we’ve done in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia,’ says Minds Eye president and CEO Kevin DeWalt.

Those other projects include the children’s series The Incredible Story Studio, family drama Mentors, doc series Myth Quest, features Escape from Rangoon, Without Malice and Something More, miniseries The Lost Daughter and MOWs Lyddie and Betrayed.

‘What you want in a supplier is, firstly, high-quality equipment and after that, an organization where, if something goes wrong, they are there to support you,’ says DeWalt. ‘Occasionally you get in trouble and a light, a dolly or a generator goes down, and it’s important that the equipment supplier comes in quickly and replaces or fixes it so that we don’t lose time, because time is money.’
