Asked their opinion on the biggest surprise among this year’s Genie Awards nominees, 36.7% of Playback readers voted for the omission of Spider for best picture. 32.8% chose Atom Egoyan’s no-show in the best director category, while 11.7% were taken aback by only two nominations for Men with Brooms. Savage Messiah’s seven noms scored 10.9% and Quebec-Montreal’s best direction and picture noms rounded out the list with 7.8%.
