Toronto’s Hero Films has signed a deal with New York-based commercial production house Treat, expanding the Toronto prodco’s roster and, according to head of sales Dave Clarke, bringing to Hero a wealth of new comedy directors. Peter Darrell, Michel Charpentier, Billy Kent, Diamantino (non-Hispanic market) and the directing team Kranky join Hero for Canadian representation.
British director Darrell has worked with Greek prodco Stefi Productions, in London as a promo director and also directed an 11-minute short for the BBC.
Kent, who gained a reputation for his series of political satire and parody commercials for MTV in the ’80s, has received the London-based Creative Review’s Creative Futures Award and has directed spots for clients such as Pepsi, Nescafe, Lipton Ice Tea and Sprint.
South Africa-based Diamantino, who has worked under such well-respected directors such as Brandon Miller and Judith Weston, joined Treat for U.S. representation in December.
