Evelyn Arthur, whose Bedlam Films was shelved in the spring after a little over a year in business, has picked up where she left off with a new venture, Wire.
Like her previous prodco, Wire is backed by The Partners’ Film Company head Don McLean. But this time around, Arthur is going it alone, having parted ways with Bedlam partner Jennie Montford.
‘All I’ll say is some things work and some things don’t,’ says Arthur about her former partnership.
Also coming over from Bedlam is helmer Patrick Sherman of Toronto, on the heels of his award-winning spot ‘Recital’ for Panasonic No Skip CD Player.
In all, Wire boasts six directors, and that total – or somewhere near there – suits Arthur just fine. ‘I want to be a small company,’ she says. ‘I want to know all my directors inside and out.’
Other directors signed to the Wire roster include Jim Manera of Toronto, who specializes in ‘big-picture, visual storytelling’ (Chevy Trucks’ ‘Like a Rock’), and Montreal-based Jet Films partner and director Sylvain Archambault (for Toronto representation only).
Wire also has three young up-and-comers from foreign lands: James Haworth of London, specializing in quirky comedy, who is repped in the U.K. by Therapy; plus Americans Austin Smithard (visual storytelling) and Bronston Jones (Xtreme sports, comedy), both of whom come to Wired through an affiliation with L.A.-based Electric Avenue.
