* CTV has named Jordan Schwartz its new VP of daytime programming. Schwartz, formerly executive producer of Canada AM, will oversee CTV’s daytime slate and report to Susanne Boyce, CTV’s president of programming and chair of the CTV Media Group. Schwartz’s executive producer credits include The Dini Petty Show, The Camilla Scott Show and House & Home, and previous employers include NBC News, ABC Daytime and CNN.
* Earl D. Weiner has been appointed VP of sales and marketing for Stornoway Communications’ diginets i-channel and bpm:tv.
Weiner brings years of experience to Stornoway, working for companies such as Twentieth Century Fox Television and Catalyst Entertainment.
* Normand Thauvette has joined Montreal production company Galafilm as VP finance. Thauvette was previously investment manager with Fonds d’Investissement de la Culture et des Communications, manager of Telefilm Canada’s TV and multimedia unit and a senior manager in Montreal with Royal Bank’s media and entertainment unit.
* Entertainment and corporate lawyer Jolene O’Neill has joined the firm of Heenan Blaikie in Vancouver.
* Keith Ingham, formerly a Walt Disney Television Animation director, has joined Vancouver’s Bardel Entertainment to direct Silverwing, an animated series based on the Kenneth Oppel novel. Silverwing airs in 2003.
* The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television announced the election of its new board of directors on July 15. The newly elected board includes: Ed Robinson, CTV VP comedy and variety programming and GM of The Comedy Network, who is re-elected as vice-chair Ontario; publicist Brigitte Prochaska is re-elected vice-chair of Western Canada; and actor Mackenzie Gray is elected to the performers branch.
Editor Richard Wells is elected to the editors branch; composer Amin Bhatia to the music branch; and producer Michael Donovan to the executive branch. Joanne Smale, president of Planet3 Communications, is elected to creative support; writer Robert Geoffrion to the screenwriters branch; sound editor Stephen Barden to the sound branch; and director Giles Walker to the directors branch.
* Susan Kerschbaumer has doubled up duties as the newly named senior publicist for CHUM’s Citytv Vancouver, which launches officially July 22. She keeps her job as senior publicist at The New VI, where she has worked since the Victoria station launched last year.
