* As part of Cinar Corp.’s restructuring program, the Montreal house has brought back Louis Fournier as head of distribution.
Fournier was employed by Cinar for eight years as VP, sales and coproductions before joining TVA International in March 2000 as president of its youth and animation unit.
During his years at Cinar, Fournier played a key role in marketing such award-winning properties as Arthur, Caillou, The Little Lulu Show and Lassie.
* Brad Pelman has been promoted to senior VP, sales and distribution for Lions Gate Entertainment’s Canadian home video and television businesses.
Pelman, who joined LG in 1999, previously served as the company’s VP, sales and marketing.
* B. Ruby Rich is taking over as international programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival Group while Kay Armatage takes a one-year sabbatical to teach at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan.
Rich has programmed films for several organizations including the Telluride, Havana and Sundance film festivals.
* RoseAnna Schick has been appointed acting executive director of the Manitoba Motion Pictures Industries Association.
Since 1995, Schick has worked in Monitoba’s film industry in marketing and administration, publicity, and production.
* Lawyer Peter Beyak heads up the new entertainment law group at the firm Borden Ladner Gervais. Beyak will be based in Vancouver and coordinate comprehensive entertainment law services at BLG offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Previously, he executive produced the 1999 IMAX film Extreme, which has grossed US$23 million to date.
* Kathy Gardner has been appointed VP, integrated media research at CanWest Global Communications.
Gardner was previously executive VP, director of media operations at Bates Canada and is a past president of the Broadcast Research Council.
* The B.C. branch of the CFTPA elected a new board in December. Tom Rowe (Sextant Entertainment) is chair, service producer Richard Davis is vice-chair, Dogwood Picture’s Lisa Richardson is treasurer and feature producer Raymond Massey is secretary.
Members at large are producers Christian Bruyere, Hilary Jones-Farrow, Julia Keatley and Shawn Williamson.
The terms are for one year.
* John Voiles has been named regional sales manager for CHUM stations CKVU13 in Vancouver and The New VI in Victoria. He was most recently local sales manager for BCTV/Global Television. He begins Jan. 28.
* Mining executive Murray Sinclair Jr. has resigned as a director of Vancouver-based Sextant Entertainment Group.
