Big effort for Big Apple spot

Over his many decades in the business, Larry Wolf has seen his fair share of commercial productions. So when the chairman of Toronto-based Wolf Group says he’s never seen anything like the effort and quick turnaround to complete a ‘Canada Loves New York’ spot, you can take his word on it.

The spot, urging Canadians to visit terror-stricken New York City as a show of support, took a mere two weeks from grain of an idea to final edit.

‘That’s the quickest in my history in the business that I’ve ever turned around a spot,’ says Wolf. ‘It’s amazing when you look at the production quality…these things usually take about three months or so.’

The challenge was made more significant because the spot had to be shot across five locations – Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Los Angeles and New York – using more than a dozen big-name celebrities.

‘Our producer [Alina Prussky] was on the phone literally day and night for four days running,’ Wolf says.

Heading up the effort on the production side was The Partners’ Film Company executive producer Don McLean along with New York-based director Bobby Sheehan.
