The fourth annual Golden Marble Awards and the third annual Golden Marble Promotion Awards are slated for Sept. 10-11 at New York’s Grand Hyatt Hotel, as part of the Advertising & Promoting to Kids conference. The shows recognize excellence in commercials and promotions aimed at children.
Panels comprised of senior ad creatives and promotions and marketing professionals will judge the entries for the respective award shows.
The Promotion Awards, to be presented at a gala luncheon on the opening day of the conference, have 25 categories for promotions aimed at children aged six to 13. Winners will be judged based on creativity in overall design, strategic thinking, execution and measurable results.
The Golden Marbles will present 32 awards at the end of the conference’s second day. The categories are mostly in the area of TV, but also include print, radio, cinema and online ads. The Marbles aim to honor advertising ‘that educates, entertains and informs.’
The awards were founded by KidScreen magazine.
Shelley Middlebrook, executive VP, administration, Brunico Communications, publisher of KidScreen and Playback, explains the Marbles help set a standard for children’s ads, and are the only awards of their kind.
‘A lot of children’s ads don’t win awards in conventional award shows because [they have] restrictions – they can’t be too edgy because they’re directed at children,’ she says. ‘Some agencies weren’t getting recognized, but the Golden Marbles now highlight their work.’
All three events are produced by Brunico subsidiary Brunico Marketing, and sponsored by KidScreen. Last year’s awards entrants include Buena Vista Marketing, The Cartoon Network, Communicator Marketing, Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks SKG, Leo Burnett, Radio Disney, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Scholastic and Warner Bros./DC Comics. *
