Canada golden again at Mobius

Canada proved its ad acumen once again at the Mobius Awards in Chicago, bringing home more statuettes than any country other than the u.s. Out of a field of 6,000 entries from 31 countries, Canucks pocketed 30 wins (down from last year’s 31), eight of them in the field of television commercial production.

The Mobius Awards, presented in tv, radio, print and package design categories, were handed out Feb. 8 at the Chicago Cultural Centre and the Museum of Broadcast Communications.

TBWA Chiat Day’s "Barter" for Moosehead won gold in the beverages: beer category. Mark Story directed the spot out of Toronto production company Avion Films.

In the food: condiments category, Leo Burnett’s "Dock/Balloon" campaign for Kraft Canada brought home gold. Generator Films director Derek Case was at the helm.

Director Laura Belsey’s work for The Directors Film Company and Anderson Advertising garnered the valued statuette in the services: professional services – medical category for "I Believe" for client Rx & D Canada’s Research Based Pharmaceutical Companies in Ottawa.

Molson Canada’s "Plastic Surgeon" and "Wheelchair" each won a gold in the public service announcement category. The spots were directed by Paul Lavoie and Zak Mroueh through Avion. Lavoie and Mroueh were also the creative directors with the agency responsible for the spots, TAXI. The same team also took gold in the PSA campaign category for the two ads.

Generator Films’ Mark Walton scored gold in the recreation: museums category with "Rediscover America" for Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. The spot was through Solomon Friedman, Detroit.

Young & Rubicam’s "Testing One’s Metal/Animal Farm" campaign for H&R Block in Calgary nabbed gold in the services: financial category. Craig Henderson directed for Toronto spot shop LTB Productions. Flashcut gets credit as the secondary production company. *
