Chartrand et Simonne big in drama at Gemeaux

In the 2000 Prix Gemeaux, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television feted some perennial favorites and lavished multiple honors on a few notable dramas when the tv industry glitterati gathered Oct. 15 for two galas. The afternoon gala at Montreal’s Centre Pierre-Peladeau was telecast live on rdi, while the evening event from Theatre Saint-Denis was carried on Radio-Canada.

Among the big winners, Chartrand et Simonne plucked six prizes, including Best Dramatic Series and five craft awards, including best direction in a dramatic series. Other multiple winners included kids series Cornemuse with four awards, including best of that category, and three craft prizes; 4 et demi with four, including best teleroman; comedy series Un gars, une fille, which took the comedy series prize and three craft awards; and Albertine, en cinq times, which snagged the hardware for best dramatic program, best direction in a dramatic program and one performance award.
