Allan Stevenson, owner and operator of the upstart Toronto-based commercial house known as Bullet Films, is now on the hunt for a roster of directors.
Stevenson, who cut his teeth in post-production and began his directing career by shooting spots for London Telecom (now Primus), says the time has come for action now that word is spreading about his production company.
‘I wanted to get into directing along with the however-many directors around town looking for representation, so I figured [I’d] develop a small production company and start picking up some commercial business,’ says Stevenson.
He says he is on the look-out for directors of varying styles to keep the shop eclectic and busy.
‘I want to diversify it if I can,’ says Stevenson of his embryonic roster. ‘The big thing Bullet is trying to do is create a fresh Canadian look. A lot of production companies start going after the Hollywood and the l.a. looks. We just want to try to develop Canadian talent and develop a Canadian look and feel that speaks to Canadians as opposed to the one-stop stuff that is done in the u.s. and brought into Canada. That is our goal.’
To whet the appetites of potential Bullet directors, Stevenson foretells of some shooting action in mid- to late August on a small pool of spots for Primus. Traditionally, Stevenson has helmed all the Primus work for Bullet, but he looks forward to passing the jobs along to others.
‘I’m going to sit back and take more of an executive producer role and try to develop the directors,’ says Stevenson. I think that is the best way to go.’
Stevenson expects Craig Douglas will play a large role in the company’s future. Douglas, known for his prowess in audio post, has worked with Stevenson numerous times and will continue to do so, as Bullet’s history is written. *
