To date, the Toronto office has given development commitments to 14 projects. Five development apps have been rejected and another 14 are still under consideration. By the end of last year, the office had received 50 complete development apps, out of which it committed to financing 40.
So far, feature film projects green-lit for development in 2000/’01 include:
* Green Grass, Running Water, produced by Barbara Allinson, Jeanne Stromberg and Alan Hausegger and based on screenwriter Thomas King’s novel of the same name.
* Pontypool Changes Everything, adapted by Tony Burgess from his novel of the same name, with Bruce MacDonald as producer and director.
* The Seduction of Mary Day, produced by Elke Towne and Shaftsbury Films, and written by Kathleen Cummins.
* Barney’s Version, based on the Mordecai Richler novel, adapted by Richler and produced by Robert Lantos, Serendipity Point Films.
* Splice, produced by Lantos with Vincenzo Natali as director and cowriter. Toinette Terry is also writing.
* The Mysteries of Ice Fishing, produced by Jennifer Kowaga and Julia Sereny of Sienna Films with Paul Fox writing and directing.
* Long Life, produced by Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie of Shaftsbury Films. Dennis Foon is cowriting with director Mina Shum.
* Torn, produced by Sandra Cunningham, written by Shawn Postoff and to be directed by Pierre Gang.
* Being With Henry, based on the novel of the same name by Martha Brooks, produced by Moira Holmes and Sari Friedland, and adapted by Susin Nielsen.
* Good Enough For Cary (aka That Touch of Pink), a Canada/u.k. coproduction with Kowaga and Sereny of Sienna Films and u.k. producer Martin Pope. Ian Rachid is writing.
* A Discovery of Strangers, based on Rudy Weibe’s novel of the same name, produced by Jennifer Jonas with Leonard Farlinger writing.
* Proteus, a Canada/South Africa coproduction with Conquering Lion Productions’ Damon D’Oliveira and John Greyson and South African coproducer Steve Markowitz. Greyson is also attached to direct and is cowriting with South African scribe Jack Lewis.
* Once Upon Time in the East, produced by Simone Urdl and Jennifer Weiss with Lara Fitzgerald to write and direct.
