Re: Richard Stursberg’s remarks at Banff about the ctf and Playback’s piece of 26 June: Only in Canada would a personal appeal from a media industry leader for coherence and co-ordination in our sector be viewed as controversial.
Who can doubt that, in today’s era of increasing international competitiveness, an infusion of market responsiveness and commercial savvy might be a good thing?
Whatever the final outcome, Stursberg deserves our thanks for sticking his neck out to get the public debate going (or roiling!).
As Canadians, we need to press for a collective grip on how best to assure quality program production and competitive supply.
In short, the time for any ‘wink-wink’ dealings at fragmented public tills just has to be seen as passed.
