Rogers to do long-format

Rogers Communications’ in-house production department is rebranding itself as Rogers Productions, a new division specializing in commercial production, corporate videos, music videos, post-production and long format, including mows and series projects.

Headed by director of productions Christa Dickenson, the new division, which officially launches in August, is already working on spots and on-air promotions for Teletoon, Family Channel and TMN-The Movie Network.

And while spokesman Charles Crosbie admits ‘we’re in a hugely favorable position,’ he affirms, ‘we are fair and competitive.’

Still, with Rogers’ being the biggest cableco in the country, and as such one of the most powerful gatekeepers in the broadcast industry, it might be that its position is beyond favorable, at least where the broadcasters are concerned.

Rogers Productions, which will be looking for coproducers wherever possible, is comprised of a small team of in-house producers, including Lisa McClean-Stellick and Kimberly Tiessen.

‘We are staying true to Rogers’ corporate philosophy, being slightly irreverent, edgy, progressive…and we have a huge advantage of being on the cutting edge of new media convergence,’ says Crosbie.

Details on upcoming projects have not been disclosed and the crtc had no comment at press time.
