Europe cites Hopscotch

Montreal: Marquise Lepage’s disturbing documentary Des Marelles et des petites filles…/Of Hopscotch and Little Girls has been awarded the Grand Jury Prize by Communications et Societe/Communications Sociales, a long-established Quebec cultural organization dedicated to promoting quality and ethical issues in communications.

The film is a coproduction between producer Nicole Lamothe of the National Film Board’s French Program and Productions Virage and documents the exploitation of young girls in several countries.

Since March, Hopscotch has picked up three international awards including a special prize at the La Mo-Viola women’s festival in Turin, Italy, and a double win (including the City of Geneva Youth Prize) at Les Rencontres Medias Nord-Sud held April 1-14 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Virage and the nfb’s French Program are renewing their partnership. The new project is Sophie Bissonnette’s Partition pour voix de femmes, a feature-length doc project associated with the 2000 World March of Women. Leo Rice-Barker
