Citytv in Toronto has launched Pulse24.com, describing the new website as an online complement to its all-news specialty service, CablePulse24, and its street-front news program City Pulse.
Says Stephen Hurlbut, vp of news programming at City and vp and gm of CablePulse 24: ‘Pulse24.com is the logical extension to the new form of information flow we first launched two years ago. With CP24 we changed the way you watch the news, now we’ll change the way you use the Web. Pulse24.com is a testament to localism on the Web.’
Viewers of CablePulse24 see multiple windows onscreen at the same time, featuring various types of information such as news items, headline crawlers, or weather. Pulse24.com extends the multi-screen, multi-info mode to the Web. Site owner ChumCity says the site allows viewers to program live streaming video from CablePulse24 and all City shows. Viewers are invited to choose among news, feature, sports, business, and entertainment stories, and weather reports. Billed as Torontonians’ ‘only local news Web site,’ Pulse24.com even allows viewers to look at more than 120 traffic cameras to check road conditions.
