As part of Global Television’s new media initiative, the network has entered into an agreement with Canada News Wire which will see cnw provide real-time content to the GlobalTV.com website, giving visitors access to breaking news from thousands of organizations.
In other Global news, the network is set to establish a northern news bureau in Yellowknife, along with a training program for Northern broadcasters.
The bureau will be assigned and managed by the itv newsroom located in Edmonton, and will file stories about the north through itv to the entire Global Television Network.
‘Because itv reaches a great [number] of northerners through satellite and cable feeds, it is important that we provide a two-way window in which they can tell southern Canadians, not only in Alberta, but in all parts of Canada, about life in the north,’ says David Asper, director of CanWest Global Communications.
The $1 million cost for the new bureau will be allocated from the benefit package CanWest will distribute if it gets the crtc go-ahead to acquire some wic assets.
