Canada came up big at the 29th Annual Mobius Awards, picking up a total of 31 wins, including nine first-place Golds in the television commercials field. The awards were handed out Feb. 9 at the Cultural Center and Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago.
Montreal’s Pascal Blais Productions was recognized with Gold in the services: public utilities category for Hydro-Quebec’s ‘Baby/ Branch/Coucou’ campaign, directed by Pascal Blais for agency bos.
Toronto’s Rave Films director Bill Irish scored a first-place win in the public service announcements category for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre’s ‘Fighting Back’ psa. Vickers & Benson Advertising coined the creative.
Also recognized in the psa category was ‘Little Girl’ for Alcohol and Drug Concerns out of v&b, directed by Spy Films’ Wade Sherman.
Evening Sky/The Animation House took Gold in the services: financial category for agf’s ‘Gumby & Pokey’ through Young & Rubicam. Bob Fortier directed.
at&t’s ‘Ice Creamed,’ directed and lensed by Radke Films’ Gordon Clark, scored Gold in the commercial products: office equipment category. The creative was coined by y&r.
Avion Films director Bruce Huewitt delivered in the products: cheese category with ‘Jolly Jumper’ for Parmalat Canada out of Palmer Jarvis ddb.
Henry Holtzman, another Avion director, brought home Gold in the personal products: bath products category for Finesse’s ‘Poem’ out of Palmer Jarvis ddb.
In the services: recruiting category, Voodoo director Eddy Chu helmed Interim Services’ Gold-winning ‘Negotiator/Astronaut’ campaign out of Miami’s Crispin Porter and Bogusky.
Picking up Gold in the fund-raising category was the White Ribbon Campaign’s ‘Why?’ through Grey Direct. Mitch Gabourie of The Partners’ Film Company directed.
