* Cinar Corp. has named Peter Moss to the newly created post of president, Cinar Entertainment, effective March 1. Moss is a former vp programming and production with ytv and at Treehouse tv, and is responsible for Cinar’s entertainment business in North and South America and Asia.
Reporting to Moss in the significantly reorganized division are: Cassandra Schafhausen, promoted to exec vp, creative affairs, responsible for all creative aspects including branding; Francois Deschamps, exec vp, operations; Andrew Porporino, cfo; Lesley Taylor, exec vp, productions, including animation and live action; Marie-Josee Corbeil, exec vp, responsible for corporate and business affairs; Patricia Lavoie, vp, live action; and Louis Fournier, vp, sales and coprods.
David Ferguson has been promoted to president, Cinar Europe. Both Moss and Ferguson report directly to chairman and co-ceo Micheline Charest and president and co-ceo Ron Weinberg.
* Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Production has appointed Bill House executive vp, effective early March.
House is the former director of operations for Telefilm Canada’s Ontario office. He joins Alliance Atlantis in the wake of a management streamlining initiative that saw the motion picture production activity move from l.a. to Toronto, under the leadership of Seaton McLean, president, aampp.
* cbc has promoted Tony Burman, former head of CBC Newsworld, to director of cbc television news, current affairs and Newsworld. He replaces Bob Culbert, who recently joined ctv as a commissioning editor for documentaries and W5.
The Corp. also recently named Burman, who has held various positions at the pubcaster over the past 25 years, its top broadcast journalist.
* Peter Sternlicht has resigned as president of Rainmaker Digital, the l.a.-based subsidiary of Vancouver’s Rainmaker Entertainment Group. He will continue to work with Rainmaker under a six-month consulting contract.
* Kelly Bray is the new vp business affairs at Salter Street Films. Bray is a former vp, legal and business affairs at Sullivan Entertainment.
In her new capacity, Bray will be responsible for legal matters related to Salter’s core business of film and tv production.
* Paula Parker, former director of programming for ytv, has been promoted to vp of programming and production.
* Global Television Quebec has named Leslie Roberts director of news and public affairs programming. Global snared Roberts away from cfcf-tv, which is in cost-cutting and regulatory limbo. Roberts was host/producer of cfcf’s Montreal Today and was also weekend anchor of Pulse News. Roberts will also co-anchor Global’s 6 p.m. Quebec newscast with Heather Hiscox. Global’s newscast is ranked third in the Quebec English market, behind cfcf and cbmt-tv, the local cbc service.
* Danielle Dansereau has been appointed director of communications and public affairs at Telefilm Canada. Dansereau is the former assistant vp of public affairs and communications at Sun Life of Canada in Toronto.
Investment analyst Patrice Baillargeon has joined Telefilm’s Halifax office, where he will help manage a portfolio of feature films, tv and multimedia projects, and analyze all aspects of Telefilm’s investment projects in the Atlantic region.
