Second round for Canada at Cannes

Canada at Cannes 2000, an international symposium and reception hosted by the Canadian film industry during the Cannes International Film Festival, will be setting up shop on the Riviera for its second year on May 14.

The one-day event, coordinated by founders Alison Emilio and Debbie Nightingale, will feature panel discussions on federal and provincial tax incentives in Canada, international coproduction, service deals, financing, filming on location and new tech.

Following the panels, a reception will be held to encourage networking and deal-making.

An advisory board is being developed to guide the programming of the symposium. Members to date include: Deborah Drisdell, director of international relations, Telefilm Canada; Mark Gill, president of Miramax Films, West Coast; Camela Galano, exec vp of New Line International; David Zitzerman, Goodman, Phillips & Vineberg; and Philip Alberstadt, head of media and entertainment, Baker-McKenzie (u.k.).

Producer Camelia Frieberg, director Jeremy Podeswa and Drisdell were among a handful of industry leaders involved in panel discussions last year.
