Vancouver: Kathleen Martin and Shelley Kirk, who cofounded Vancouver-based Voyageur Film Capital Corp. in 1997, have quit as directors and managers after a restructuring of the company in late December.
In a telephone interview, Kirk wouldn’t comment on the departures and whether they were forced or amicable. She says the two are still shareholders in Voyageur, and that both women have projects in the works, ‘possibly’ in the entertainment sector. She offered no other details.
At Voyageur, Martin had been responsible for the overall management of business affairs, while Kirk had overseen relations with the investment community. Voyageur had acquired Cadence Entertainment in October.
After last month’s restructuring, Cadence president Scott Kennedy, who was named chairman of the Voyageur board in November, has assumed the additional role of president and ceo of Voyageur. He says Kirk and Martin want to ‘look for other opportunities.’
In setting the new corporate direction, Kennedy has terminated Voyageur Productions’ production and development slate including features Will You Won’t You and True North and a variety of proposed television series.
Instead, the company will marshal around the production of Cadence feature Shiney’s Head, a $6.2-million Canadian/Irish coprod. Preproduction begins this month in Dublin, and production is set to begin in March.
Voyageur’s stock, which trades on the new Canadian Venture Exchange, traded at $0.11 per share on Jan. 18. Its 52-week year low is $0.07 and high is $0.55.
