Cronenberg gets award

Film director David Cronenberg was among the recipients of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards for a lifetime’s worth of contribution to Canadian arts. Cronenberg has helmed 17 films in his career including Crash, Scanners and, more recently, eXistenZ.

Other recipients include director of C’t’a ton tour Laura Cadieux, Denise Filiatreault, songstress and actor Ginette Reno (Leolo) and actor/director/producer/composer Mavor Moore.

Each award recipient is to receive a medallion from the Royal Canadian Mint, plus $10,000, at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Nov. 7. The ceremony will be broadcast on cbc Dec. 26 and on Radio-Canada Jan. 7.
