Robert Cooper, head of feature film development and production at DreamWorks skg, has left the company to form Cooper Entertainment, which plans to develop and produce feature films and tv projects in the u.s. and Canada.
The company’s first project is a joint venture with DreamWorks, where Cooper is set to produce four films: Breaking Up, Paradise Falls, Planet Fred and Shackled.
Cooper is currently based in Santa Monica and plans to open offices in Toronto and l.a.
During his stint at DreamWorks, Cooper’s productions included American Beauty, starring Annette Bening and Kevin Spacey and directed by Sam Mendes, which has a gala screening at tiff.
Cooper, a native of Montreal, founded Halifax-based production company Citadel Entertainment, and in 1983, produced the first-ever made-for-hbo cable movie The Terry Fox Story. Citadel was later sold to hbo/Time Warner, where he served as president of hbo for eight years, followed by a stint as president of TriStar Pictures.
