Moviepix, archives restore film

Montreal: The Montreal World Film Festival in association with Astral Communications held a tribute screening Aug. 31 of Paul Almond’s 1971 Golden Globe nominee, Act of the Heart. The National Archives of Canada and Moviepix, an Astral Television Networks pay-tv service, paid for the film’s restoration.

Through Moviepix, Astral is committed to spending close to $500,000 over the next seven years for the restoration and preservation of Canadian movies. Other restoration projects include Century Snapshots, a compilation of nine early Canadian short films; Bush Pilot, a campy 1946 classic; and Don Shebib’s 1970 classic Goin’ Down the Road.

A riveting drama about a woman’s fascination with a priest, Act of the Heart stars longtime Almond collaborator Genevieve Bujold and Donald Sutherland, and is the second Canadian movie restored under the agreement.
