Krystal innovating

Krystal Music & Sound Design composer/producer David Krystal is providing digital asylum for producers with a new gear configuration promising greater finesse for mixing.

The Asylum Sound Studio in Toronto is an early adopter, according to executive producer Harvey Wolfe, of the Pro Tools Pro controller system, mixing software which uses a virtual controller rather than an ordinary mixing console. According to Wolfe, the new system allows the user to manipulate sound with a greater degree of subtlety and control than the traditional approach of using a mouse and a keyboard.

According to Krystal, the new system is music friendly in that it is geared less towards sound design and voice-over work, is more flexible when it comes to recording music tracks, and can record 64 tracks simultaneously.

Some recent projects to come through Asylum since it opened a few months ago are The Nuttiest Nutcracker, an animated feature out of Columbia TriStar, and Top of The Food Chain from Upstart Pictures for which the company recorded a 40-piece orchestra.

Krystal Music & Sound Design has been around for more than a year and its core business is producing music for tv and radio.
