Montreal’s Big Bang Animation has changed its name to Big Bang FX/Animation and added Discreet Logic’s Inferno software to its portfolio – which already includes Softimage, Eddie, After Effects and Flint.
Montreal-based Big Bang is one of the first companies in North America to acquire the new and improved version of Inferno, which comes with a new R12000 processor, making the product faster and offering a better range of effects for animators.
According to Big Bang president Mario Rachiele, the name change is a natural step following the May merger between Big Bang and Toronto’s MIJO Corporation along with the acquisition of the new Inferno.
‘We do a lot of compositing now,’ says Rachiele. ‘Big Bang Animation, the previous name, was more specific to 3D computer animation. Now that we are using a lot of compositing software we wanted to boaden our name to include that element, which is now an extremely important part of our business.’
