Vancouver: As part of its overall restructuring plan, WIC Western International Communications has closed its WIC Television head office in Toronto and moved it to Vancouver, a consolidation that resulted in three layoffs, including former president and ceo Jim Macdonald.
Peter Classon, president and ceo of wic, was not available at press time to comment on the closing of the Toronto office or how it fits into the new wic plan. However, the responsibility of overseeing wic’s nine television properties now falls to Art Reitmayer who, as the new president and ceo of WIC Television, will retain his chief executive roles at stations bctv and chek-tv.
‘We have a challenging year ahead of us,’ says Reitmayer, who deferred questions about the restructuring to Classon. Reitmayer says flat revenue growth and competition are making it tough throughout the broadcasting industry. ‘We have lots of good programming. We’re going to keep pushing forward.’
On the subject of programming, Macdonald’s departure comes less than two weeks before wic’s fall programming launch June 23.
wic’s operations are now consolidated in Vancouver and in Edmonton, which is home to wic’s radio operations and WIC Premium Television, which operates Superchannel, MovieMax and the Western pay-per-view operations.
