* Devine Entertainment down in ’98

Devine Entertainment posted revenues of $2.1 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 1998, compared for $3.4 million for fiscal ’97. Net income for 1998 was $238,047 (or $0.02 per share) compared to $926,162 (or $0.08 per share) the year before.

During 1998, Devine delivered three films – the final in The Inventors’ Specials and the first two films in The Artists’ Specials – to hbo.

1999 is expected to be a stronger year with growth in both Canadian and foreign sales.

* Shaw expands to New Brunswick

Shaw Communications is spending $460 million to acquire 100% of the issued and outstanding shares of Fundy Communications. Approximately $150 million of the agreement will be reached by the issuance of Class b shares.

Currently, Fundy runs cable television systems serving approximately 192,000 subscribers, based mostly in New Brunswick. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals.

* Kelley wins Astral Award

David E. Kelley, creator of Ally McBeal, The Practice, Chicago Hope and Picket Fences, is this year’s winner of the Astral Award of Excellence, sponsored by Astral Communications. Kelley will be presented with the award June 14 at the 20th Banff Television Festival’s Rockie Awards show.
