New products: Diva-Lite 400 & 200

Among the new fluorescent lights introduced by Hochheim at the Toronto presentation is the Diva-Lite 400, a portable soft key and fill source for digital video shooters. The Diva, with a full-range dimmer for precise lighting control, is ideal for fieldwork and one- or two-person interviews, and comes with a duo-voltage universal power supply, which, once the unit is plugged in, automatically adjusts for the correct voltage.

Designed for interior lighting, the fixture can run both tungsten and daylight-balanced lamps, and Kino Flo is currently customizing a compact long-life lamp for it which should be on the market within a couple of months.

The currently available light still has a bit of green to it, but videographers can compensate by simply doing a white-balance.

Hochheim concedes ‘film dops may be a little more critical of the color, so it’s not something we’re recommending to them at this point without correction. With correction, even the film guys should have no problem.’

The kit includes a diffusion attachment, which helps make it an ideal soft source. The Diva is of greatest benefit to eng shooters traveling internationally who don’t want to be burdened carrying transformers. For those requiring an even more compact unit, Kino Flo has also introduced the Diva-Lite 200.
