Vancouver: Producer James Shavick of Vancouver’s Shavick Entertainment is inaugurating a new prize for the best emerging director in Western Canada on June 7.

The first annual Shavick Award comes with a cheque for $10,000. Cosponsor Kodak Canada will pay second- and third-place awards of $5,000 and $2,000, respectively.

Directors from b.c., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the northern territories are eligible.

Shavick, one of the largest production companies in Canada by volume, is known mostly as a service producer for clients such as Fox Family Channel. However, in the past year, the company has been moving toward independent production.

Entry forms are available from Shavick Entertainment at (604) 874-4300 and are due by March 21.
