CAN PRO rescheduled

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters has rescheduled the 26th annual Can Pro Festival from March 27 to March 20-22, 1999 in Ottawa.

Under the theme ‘Power, Politics, Production,’ the two-day festival, which features workshops and sessions dealing with issues facing Canadian broadcasters, will culminate in an awards gala honoring the industry’s best.

*Chum chair honored

Chum chairman and president Allan Waters will be inducted into the Builders’ section of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as the 1999 recipient of the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award.

The award will be presented March 7, as part of the 28th Juno Awards at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton.

*Voyageur raises $600K

Vancouver-based Voyageur Film Capital Corp., a public production finance company trading on the Alberta Stock Exchange, has completed a secondary public financing to raise gross proceeds of $620,250.

Company president Kathleen Martin says the money will be used for general working capital and the development of television product. Part of the proceeds are dedicated to the company’s joint venture with Vancouver-based Shavick Entertainment to produce two us$2-million features.

In the offering, the company sold 1.24 million units at 50 cents apiece.

Each unit consists of one common share and one-half of one common share purchase warrant. One warrant entitles the holder to acquire one common share of Voyageur at a purchase price of 65 cents until Nov. 30, 1999.

*Lions Gate division busts record

termite Art Productions, an l.a.-based subsidiary of Vancouver’s Lions Gate Entertainment, says it made ratings history Nov. 19 with its non-fiction program Busted on the Job, which aired on Fox.

According to the company, Busted was the ‘top-rated non-baseball Thursday special in Fox history in homes and adults 18-49.’

Formed in 1995, Termite has produced a variety of specials for Fox, cbs, pbs, Discovery Channel, History Channel and VH1, including Wild Rescues, Great Streets, World’s Most Dangerous Animals, When Good Times Go Bad and Animal Heroes.
