At Press Time

A number of Canadian films will unspool at the Sundance ’99 Film Festival this January, but none will be in official competition.

Selected for the World Cinema section are Thom Fitzgerald’s Beefcake and 2 Secondes from Manon Briand.

Jim Shedden’s documentary Brakhage has been chosen for the Midnight screening section, and Gil Cardinal’s Big Bear and The Gift from actor/ director Gary Farmer will run in the fest’s Native Visions section.

High Road Productions’ Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows was invited as part of the documentary section but the producers had to decline the fest organizers’ offer. The documentary is scheduled to air on A&E in the u.s. on Sunday, Dec. 20, and because Sundance films are not allowed to broadcast prior to screening at the festival, Hitman is ineligible.
