Vancouver: Lions Gate Entertainment of Vancouver posted a $1.3-million loss on revenues of $24.3 million for 1999’s second fiscal quarter (ended Sept. 30).
Principal contributors to the loss are the costs related to the expansion of television activities at Lions Gate Media and Mandalay Television and disappointing box office results.
During the quarter, the company completed the acquisition of l.a.-based Termite Art Productions, hired former Baywatch producer Kevin Beggs to develop and produce one-hour syndicated series for Lions Gate Media, and reported gross domestic box office (Canada and the u.s.) of $2.1 million for Buffalo ’66, which was produced and distributed by Lions Gate Films.
Lions Gate Media is currently developing television projects on three fronts – reality-based programs, family-oriented programs and one-hour syndicated series – the first of which are expected to be produced in calendar 1999.
