A real estate switcheroo appears to be in the offing as sources say that distribution company Odeon Films may be headed for Alliance Communications offices at 121 Bloor Street East, while Robert Lantos’ new prodco Serendipity Point Films will set up temporary shop at Cineplex head office until permanent digs are found.

Odeon Films has remained at Cineplex head office after majority interest was sold to Alliance last May, to operate as a ‘parallel distribution track’ to Alliance Releasing.

Lantos reportedly has up to three months to vacate the Alliance (now Alliance Atlantis Communications) head office following his stepping down as part of the Alliance-Atlantis merger. When asked about moving to Cineplex’s uptown Yonge Street office, Lantos’ office stated, ‘When we have a temporary location, we will announce that.’

If Odeon does in fact move to aac head office it could further speculation that Odeon’s autonomy from 75% owner aac might not be as ‘arm’s-length’ as first thought. While still handling October Films releases in Canada, Odeon has yet to acquire any films since the takeover.
