Montreal: Productions La Fete has launched a non-fiction and documentary production unit, Explo Vision, slated to start taping a 13-hour series on fly fishing this month. The series has been presold to French digital satellite channel Seasons and to Reseau des Sports, Quebec’s specialty sports channel.
Explo Vision development vp Martin Metivier says the new operation will produce doc and outdoor series for specialty sports and lifestyle channels in Canada, the u.s. and Europe. Projects in development have themes such as nature, animals, eco-tourism, hunting and fishing.
‘We want to develop these areas because we’ve already found markets and partners,’ says Metivier, a former exec with Mediamax International, La Fete’s foreign sales division. Andre-Luc Fragano is the president of Explo Vision.
Explo Vision is also working with other non-fiction and documentary producers including Productions Vic Pelletier (Montagne), one of Quebec’s leading wildlife producers, and Sport Action Video, a Quebec City-based producer of nature and outdoors series and stock footage.
Upcoming Pelletier releases include Great Northern Adventures: Nunavik, a three-part doc series on Canada’s East Arctic territory, and a one-hour special chronicling the work on a five-nation Arctic science expedition on board a Canadian icebreaker. The latter is currently in production.
Both Nunavik and another 13 half-hour series, Islands of Inspiration, have been sold to TV5 and La Cinquieme, France’s educational network.
