– Back exposition at Cinematheque
The Cinematheque Quebecoise and Radio-Canada are hosting an exhibition and tribute to award-winning animation director Frederic Back. ‘Frederic Back – les dessins d’une vie’ is running at the Cinematheque through to May 3.
Back won two Academy Awards, for Crac! in 1981 and L’Homme qui plantait des arbes (The Man who Planted Trees) in 1987.
The exhibition includes a reconstruction of the artist’s atelier as well as a wide selection of original production cels, drawings and illustrations representing Back’s lesser-known work in publishing, commercial design and glass, as well as his output in television and film.
– ACCT commercial push
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television has spearheaded a collaboration amongst Canadian broadcasters to air a series of promo spots highlighting Canadian tv production and the upcoming Gemini Awards.
cbc, ctv, Global Television, tvontario, wic and ytv are among the networks which will broadcast the spots year-round as an ongoing, awareness-building campaign to help audiences recognize Canadian programs, its stars and producers, and the awards which honor them.
The pan-industry, nationwide broadcasting initiative was created through the efforts of a national promotion committee formed by the Academy and chaired by Roger Ivey, manager of production at Global.
The production community and numerous suppliers donated time and services to the production of a 15- and 30-second spot worth $500,000 and featuring an array of clips showcasing Canadian tv programs.
Director Robert Quartly, dop Rene Ohashi, editor Tim Kirkwood, writer John Kewley and performer Colin Mochrie were among the team responsible for creating the spots, shot at Global’s studio.
Key suppliers included The Directors Film Company, William F. White, Flashcut Editing, Command Post/Toy Box, Kodak Canada and The Lab.
