– New Global award

The Global Television Network, with Canadian Woman in Communications, has launched the Management Development for Women Award.

Initiated by Global, the annual $7,500 prize offers a female broadcast exec the opportunity to attend the National Association of Broadcasters’ 1998 Management Development Seminar for Television Executives at Northwestern University in Illinois.

– YTV hits the Hill

YTV Parle Minutes, a new series on how government works, hit the airwaves with a series of one-minute segments focusing on different areas of parliament.

Also coming to ytv is Surf’s Up! Let’s Cook!, the first television cooking show in Canada to be developed especially for children, produced by Take Part Production in association with ytv.

– Floating Castle

The Castle, an Australian box-office hit at home, won the audience award during the Floating Film Festival that returned to Vancouver port Feb. 1. Organized in part by Vancouverite Hannah Fisher, the Caribbean cruise/film event, played host to 20 films. First runner-up was American film Sliding Doors, followed by Without Limits. The Critics’ Prize went to Spanish Prisoner and The Opposite Sex, in a tie.
