The inaugural edition of Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children will take place April 21-26. Headed by director and programmer Jane Schoettle, the school portion, aimed at students aged eight to 14, will screen at Cineplex Odeon Madison Cinemas during the week, with the public weekend for children aged four to 12 running on the weekend of April 24-26 at the Famous Players Cumberland Theatre.
Classes visiting the school portion of Sprockets will also be able to tour an operating room set and view demonstrations on animatronics, computer and traditional cel animation, as well as tour the Film Reference Library.
Among the eight live-action films from around the world selected to screen in the school program are Eye of the Eagle from Denmark’s Peter Flinth and Naran from Japanese director Makoto Shiina. All the films will screen in their original language with English subtitles, which will be read by a performer.
Information on the public program is expected in March.
