*Service to consult for Camelot pics

Pamela F. Service, the American author of two books rooted in Arthurian legend, Winter of Magic’s Return and its sequel Tomorrow’s Magic, has signed on as story consultant for Toronto’s Camelot Pictures’ signature children’s animated video series based on her work.

In addition to developing the animated video series based on Service’s work, Camelot recently purchased all rights, other than live stage, to the musical St. George, which the prodco intends to produce as a theatrical animated feature.

*Blockbuster Golden Reel winner & Genie hosts

Keystone Entertainment’s Air Bud is the winner of the newly named Blockbuster Golden Reel Award. Air Bud grossed more than $1.6 million during the qualifying period of Oct. 21, 1996 through to Oct. 20, 1997, making it the year’s top-grossing Canadian film.

Air Bud was distributed in Canada by Behaviour and in the u.s. by Buena Vista.

Directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Torontonian Kevin Zegers, the film about a basketball-playing dog was produced by Robert Vince and Michael Strange.

In other Genie news, this year’s hosts will be critic and screenwriter Cameron Bailey and journalist and author Geoff Pevere.
