*Covitec back in black

Publicly traded (mse) studio and post-production company Groupe Covitec reports a return to profitability with net earnings of $850,500 for the year ending Aug. 31, 1997. The Montreal-based company, headed by president and ceo Claude Gagnon, had losses of $460,000 last year.

In the past year, Covitec doubled its top-line revenues to $13.1 million, following the $6-million March acquisition of two Tele-Metropole service operations, Centre de Montage Electronique, Sonolab, and Supersuite, owned by CFCF Inc.

Covitec divisions include Covitec-Eclair, Karma, Sonolab, Studio Lasalle, a partnership venture with Moliflex/White, and Supersuite/cme.

The company has offices in Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa.

*10th edition of Course destination monde

Eight finalists in the 10th edition of Radio-Canada’s international competitive youth documentary series Course destination monde embark on their 20-week transcontinental voyage Dec. 5, with videotape submissions being filed through to April 24.

The 1997/98 finalists have to produce 15 mini-documentaries over the competition, and were selected from among 15 short-listed candidates.

The finalists are: Robin Aubert, Meissoon Azzaria, Dominic Desjardins, Nicolas Desrosiers, Yves-Christian Fournier, Myriam Frechette, Robin McKenna and Francois Peloquin.

Pierre Girard is the director. Pierre Therrien hosts the one-hour show, which airs weekly on r-c starting Jan. 10, 1998.
